After spending much of the morning moping about the house feeling sorry for myself due to my lack of close female friends and my inability to meet girls I share common interests with, a rather interesting business idea popped into my head. It’s something that I think has the potential to either do extremely well and become very popular, or fail really fucking hard. Either way, if I decide to do it I’m probably going to have to invest a bit of money into it. For now I’m keeping my idea under wraps, so all I’ll say is it relates to the idea of making new friends who have similar interests and beliefs. I have a lot of research to do.

For someone who has more MySpace friends than most people in Australia, I really don’t have a lot of real life friends. I’ve never been one of those chicks who has a group of close friends that they refer to as, “My girls” and have regular dinner and coffee outings with. I was a socially awkward and somewhat eccentric teenager and I moved around to a lot of small country towns because of my dad’s job so I never really formed any solid, lasting friendships throughout school. These days, I’m pretty sure my inability to meet friends stems mostly from my insecurity and shyness, and my undesirable habit of assuming everyone hates me. I think my job causes a lot of my insecurities. When it comes to meeting new people, I tend to either go into a state of panic that they’re going to hate me and think I’m a whore because of my job, or I go in the other direction and worry that they’re only hanging out with me because they think I’m some kind of internet celebrity and they want to brag about it. Both cases tend to result in unpleasant hyperventilation and eventual backing out.

Whatever the reason behind it, I spend a lot of time feeling very lonely and craving social interaction with like-minded females, and I think a lot of girls out there feel the same.

i suppose its the same with men ashlee like myself bein a chef i dont have social hours so its very hard to make any friends except for hospitality people who work the same hours as i do plus im shy around new people so i dont talk to them a lot and i have a very small circle of mates i hang out with after work if we can otherwise its home time haha…anyway good luck with your new venture

Wish I was a 18-30 year old female so I could help you out. LOL

I got to admit, I never thought that of you. I’m surprised as I thought you would have quite a few friends around. I can understand where your coming from though.
But just so you know, i don’t give a toss whether your a celebrity and i’d have a coffee with you anyday just because your you. Your a great person with a lot more depth and wisdom then people give you credit for.

You keep rocking girl and I wish you all the best for your dreams. Someone once said… “Aim for the stars because if you aim for the moon then that’s as far as you’ll ever get”

I just read your latest blog…but being a male I figured you probably weren’t interested in me filling out a survey. However, I find myself in a similar situation of not having many real life friends…and I’m looking at getting into a business that requires me to be able to network with all sorts of new people…and quite frankly I’m wondering if I’ll truly be able to overcome my shyness and do just that…or will I struggle miserably and end up becoming even more reclusive?? So although I’m sure you’re quite busy, I do hope you’ll post and let your MySpace friends (or at least me!) know how it turns out!! I sincerely wish you the best of luck with your idea!!

me myself has traveled wayyy too much!! & it so far sounds like a great idea!!

i can talk to anyone as i have always had to or you will never make friends but sometimes ppl think ya either crazy, random or you make a great party friend but thats as often as u may ever see them!

i know other girls like this too! fun outgoing etc.. but where is there line of friends that they deserve! its not like they don’t want too, ppl just are not so social anymore or something!? weird! outgoingness is great for parties but you never really strike many friendships with girls my own age!? don’t have any idea why, younger or older but not my own age! and ppl my own age r so rushed with there babies etc… and i am not down that path! I still wanna have fun!!!
Adelaide can be a VERY clicky place! it would be good for girls and guys to have some way of making friends without any trouble!

Also having a very gypsy childhood in many towns and cities and countries, my self-confidence works great part of the time. I have little trouble tracking down interesting activities, clubs and people in new locations.

But it’s also clear that I can be great friends with someone for a while, yet have few regrets about moving on with my life. Which often means losing touch rather fast. The biggest issue for me is my work does not usually involve people with similar interests. Music and the web are good substitutes some of the time – gigs, clubs, blogs, Twitter, etc – while writing satisfies the inner creative needs.

Briefly, then , over the past three years I’ve realised a growing desire for an external outlet for my creativity. I was a singer for a few years but that was a while ago. You perform, so I guess that is your external creativity. Do you have a balance with internal creativity, something that satisfies feelings of self-fulfillment rather than external praise?

ashlee i’m exactly like you shy and i rarely ever let my guard down i think many girls would disown and backstab you because of you’r job but then again those people dont deserve to be any friend of yours strippers are hott! dont let anyone get you down your beautiful and down to earth in time friends will come but goodluck babe. x

i dont see why u dont meet one of ur myspace/facebook mates.. female or male.. yeah they might wanna know you because ur some big internet celeb lol.. but it would b easier because they know some things about you.. you can tell wen people are fake… plus u can interact with them on msn or some thing first and see if u have a connection with them..

I struggle to have a social life due to having a toddler.

When I do go out i make it a night to remember as i don’t know when i will be able to go out again.

I too like the things you do and in SA with the majority of people our age are either scene or emo it’s hard to find just normal people who have tatts and piercings and don’t change themselves due to a scene.

You know I always thought we had a fair bit in common, we’re both morbidly obsessed with Resident Evil, both like video games (same taste in them as that) and same taste and ideas in tattoo designs. As much as it is awesome having a group of girls to hang out with, I usually find men easier to be around anyway because there’s less backstabbing and bitching, a lot of girls these days are total skanks in that way and I don’t trust a lot of females cos of it.
