I think a lot in the shower. Tonight I was wondering, why is the word “cunt” considered sooo offensive? I mean, essentially it’s just a particularly crude word for the female genitalia. I wouldn’t really be offended if someone called me a vagina or a smoo or a muff. What is it about “cunt” that makes it widely thought of as the worst possible word you can say?

I don’t know, i’ve been slowly adding it to my daily sayings, figure soon it’ll be fine ^_^

That’s one I only use when I’m super angry, and I won’t use it around females because a lot don’t seem to like it. I’m sure one day it will become a normal bad word like all the others seem to have become

In the end, everything migrates to the middle – extremely offensive words will only be so offensive for a limited period, just like risque words and double entendres will eventually become ’swears’.
As an example, here in the UK in the 80’s there used to be a comedy programme called ‘Are you Being Served’. Classic, British camp comedy. It in a character called Mrs Slocombe regularly asked whether characters had seen her pussy – 99% referring to her cat and 1% referring to the double entendre of her cunt. Of course, she is in her 60’s and ugly as sin, so noone had ever seen her pussy. I think the cat was a figment of her imagination too.
So, as J.D. comments, give it another 10 years and ‘hey cunts’ will be as common as ’shut it punk’.

I had a Mel Gibson meltdown last night and used the word cunt some many times, even spelt it out to the person just in case they didnt get it, it was a great release for me. Best word out there when needed.

I think much of it is about phonetics, it’s a very ‘blunt’ (pardon the pun) sounding word.
It was used by the lower classes extensively in Victorian England and I reckon much of the stigma originates from the fact that it’s a ‘lower class’ word.
Having said all this… I love it when gorgeous girls drop the ‘C-Bomb’!!!

Here’s a challenge
try to use the word cunt or slut in a sentence without making it sounds dirty or rudeJai stengord on July 17, 2010 at 12:24 am. -
Hey Ash!
I have no idea why that word is so offensive……. I wouldn’t find it offensive if I was a female either……… for example, the word dick (or dickhead) used to a male isn’t offensive so why should the word cunt be? I don’t understand that either……..Ad.

I strongly suspect that the connotation of the word as used (I am assuming it was used against you directly) was negative. There is a world of difference between the phrases “your sweet ____” and “you little____”. The first is meant as compliment, and the second could be taken as demeaning insult. It’s all in the context.
Don’t let this jerk get to you (whole lotta words I could use for “jerk”,’ I am sure you know of a few more for the dastard). Keep standing up for yourself. Stay strong. You’re great! Do relaxing stuff at home, recharge. Crack your knuckles, do some stretches, then take on the world. Works for me.

I REALLY am offended when people get offended by “dirty” words! i mean words are empty! but also they can with an ease that comes from evolution of the English language get across so many other things besides what is actually being said! why would a word like cunt be SO offensive but cruel intention NOT containing a bad word is fine?!?!? and YES i know someone whom is offended by the word cunt and will over react and interrupt you and or ignore you or tell you she wont listen to you unless you stop using that word! ALL these things are rude compared to slipping in some colourful language while expressing your views!

I don’t know why it’s considered so offensive. I really enjoy yelling it when I’m frustrated though. I have a male friend who hates it with a vengeance. All of us were playing in the snow once (yes, we are immature) and he threw me in the snow for using it (not hard or anything). It was pretty fun. He even gave his gf the evil eye when she was singing it in an Eminem song.

I love the word cunt, prolly cause it’s so offensive. I made my old myspace name cuntpony just to reflect how stupid the stigma surrounding the word truly is.

Cunt actually means “A wound that never heals” I don’t know when it became offensive.
